The Bathroom [UE5]

This scene is part of larger ongoing project Parker and I are working on that explores the household of our stories antagonist. This scene in particular gives the viewer of a small glimpse into his life style and the filth he burrows in.

I saw this as a opportunity to level up Parker and I grunge workflow and experiment with a wide range of surface breakup — stains, dirt buildup, trash, leaks, chipped paint, and general wear and tear. Because this is an indoor environment, we didn’t have outdoor elements to lean on for realism. This meant we had to really push our presentation and texture work in order to sell this space.

We purchased a dekogon pack for the clothes. I spun a few cycles on the floors tileables and decals since it covers so much space in the scene.

Decal creation isn't my strength, however I was able to create some excellent looking decals within this scene that complimented a lot of the prop content that parker created. I created all the tileables and decals via Painter.

We’ve spent a few cycles trying to figure out a nice balance of prop density without cluttering the scenes composition.

Parker was crucial in texture exploration for our prop content. It can be difficult to understand the scenes AD when you don't have many references for the levels of filth we wanted.

I love this render because it shows how parker approaches texturing. Heavier here, lighter there, and subtle in-between. Grunge should never be a general application across an entire surface.

Gathering references was hit or miss with this level of filth, we didn't have a concept to work off either. This limitation allowed me to dial in the vibe within this environment.
